Podcast: Listen to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Read a New Short Story
A new short story by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, written for the Serpentine Galleries’ new Bridge Commission, is available for download.
Twelve world renowned authors have written new pieces to last the duration of the five-minute walk between the Serpentine Gallery and the new Serpentine Sackler Gallery, which are linked by a bridge over the Serpentine Lake in London. The stories will be released monthly, from September 2013 until September 2014, as “audio walks”, which can be downloaded for free from the Serpentine Galleries website.
Adichie, bestselling author of Americanah, has written the fourth story for the series; untitled, but described as “an awakening, to the sound and dust of the Harmattan wind” – a dry, dusty West African trade wind. The story is a moving account of a woman stirring from an emotionally detached state, as the familiar sound and smell of the wind rouse her memory, and it is beautifully read by the author.
