Video: Hlumelo Biko Stresses the Importance of Building Public-Private Partnerships
Hlumelo Biko, author of The Great African Society, talked with Vuyo Mbuli on SABC2′s Morning Live programme. Biko said that South Africa’s private sector is one of the best in the world in terms of collecting capital, but said that it doesn’t use that capital to solve the problems in the country.
Of the differences between government’s actions and the private sector’s actions, Biko feels “there is a lack of trust between the two parties.” He also feels that “we are losing the spirit of economic freedom” and that it is not being won by the ordinary South African. He says he tried to offer some solutions in his book, that can either give people ideas or courage in terms of how to tackle some of South Africa’s biggest problems.
Hlumelo Biko, a businessman and investment banker, says that South Africa has been relying too much on government to do everything and that South Africa has not used the strength of the private sector to help solve some of the country’s biggest challenges.
