A Girl Walks into a Bar: Helen Moffett, Sarah Lotz & Paige Nick’s “Choose Your Own Adventure” Erotica
Oliver Munson of AM Heath & Co in London announces the sale of “a choose your own adventure” erotica series written by South African writers Sarah Lotz, Helen Moffett and Paige Nick under the pseudonym Helena S Paige.
Jeremy Boraine at Jonathan Ball bought South African rights after multi-house bidding. The first title, A Girl Walks into a Bar…, will be published later in 2013.
A delighted Boraine said, “I have never before received such a strong ‘yes, please!’ from my colleagues, whether in editorial, publicity, marketing or sales. The writing is so smart, fun and sexy, the idea so fresh, none of us could resist A Girl Walks into a Bar. I’ve no doubt that it’s going to knock some socks off.”
Pre-empts were coming in and auctions were underway just hours after the proposal and 22 page sample material went out on international submission. Translation rights have been sold in 10 countries after auction or pre-empt with the German auction entering its 5th round.
Little, Brown’s Sphere imprint won the UK auction and HarperCollins’ Morrow imprint won US rights.
Sphere’s Manpreet Grewal said, “The A Girl Walks in series is inspired. To allow a woman to be in charge of her own erotic destiny, to relinquish control to her completely, is uniquely empowering and made these books stand out for all the right reasons. The concept is completely addictive, the storytelling gripping. The entire team is behind this and it’s going to be an utter pleasure to publish this series on the Sphere list.”
Amanda Bergeron of Morrow said, “The talented writers who make up Helena S. Paige are, in a word, brilliant. A Girl Walks into a Bar couldn’t be a more delightfully irresistible concept, and this series was possibly one of the easiest editorial meeting pitches I’ve had the pleasure of making. This concept brings choose-your-own-adventure to a new level, and my colleagues and I absolutely couldn’t be more thrilled to have this fun, sexy, smart series on the William Morrow list.”
