Video: Andrew Feinstein Talks About Corruption and the Arms Trade on South 2 North

Andrew Feinstein, author of The Shadow World: Inside the Global Arms Trade, was recently interviewed by Redi Tlhabi on her Al Jazeera show South 2 North. He talked about the impact of the arms deal in South Africa and how the global arms industry has shown corruption at its worst. Business and politics have become extremely intertwined, Feinstein said.

He believes those receiving kickbacks from this industry must be brought to book. This must be done not only in the global South, but also in London and other places where the arms are manufactured and the business of selling is initiated. Feinstein said that the “executives, the politicians and the diplomats who facilitate and therefore condone this sort of corruption” should also be held responsible.

Feinstein and Tlhabi were joined by Cosatu’s Zwelinzima Vavi and Wits University academic Dilip Menon who has written extensively about corruption in India.
